Raiders Recap- Week 9: Eagles

Philly Flies Past Dismal Raiders' Defense

The results were perplexing, to say the least

Yikes.

That's about all I can say about the most recent "scheduled outing" of the Oakland Raiders.

I use the term because it wasn't exactly a game, hardly a match, and there was definitely no sign of competition. But the team did stand on and around their home field on Sunday, most of them merely trying to avoid being run over by the train that was the Philadelphia offense.

Foles was near-perfect
Many were shocked by the outcome. This was a Philadelphia team that had scored only 10 points in its last two games, and yet the Eagles marched into Oakland and had 14 on the board before a minute had elapsed in the second quarter. They soared into halftime on the wings of four Nick Foles touchdown passes, then scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to bring the lead to 49-13. Foles finished the game 22 of 28 with 406 yards and tied an NFL record with seven touchdown passes in a single game.

Oakland's secondary looked to be playing on ice, as defenders inexplicably fell multiple times and surrendered touchdown bombs of 63 and 46 yards-- and the other five were just as ugly. The score got out of hand quickly, as the Eagles pasted the Raiders in back-to-back 21 point quarters.

After the game, QB Terrelle Pryor was at a loss as to what the difference in his team was. "Just one of those games," he shrugged. "Embarrassing team loss... Just gotta get better."

The entire game summed up in one photo
Pryor was able to make some plays with his arms, and more with his legs, but it was not enough to keep pace with the seemingly unstoppable Philadelphia offense. Oakland gave up big-play after big-play, and the Eagles moved up and down the field with ease.

Philadelphia Scoring Drives
  • Touchdown- 10 Plays, 84 Yards, 3:58 TOP
  • Touchdown- 8 Plays, 82 Yards, 2:45 TOP
  • Touchdown- 1 Play, 63 Yards, 0:09 TOP
  • Touchdown- 8 Plays, 80 Yards, 3:31 TOP
  • Touchdown- 4 Plays, 61 Yards, 0:46 TOP
  • Touchdown- 3 Plays, 57 Yards, 0:51 TOP
  • Touchdown- 3 Plays, 68 Yards, 1:18 TOP

For those of you counting at home, that's 49 points in 37 plays, with three separate scoring drives over 60 yards in under 80 seconds.

I wasted enough of my time watching the game, so I'll make this short and conclude with the last item of note for Raiders' fans: RB Darren McFadden left the game in the with a hamstring injury and did not return. His status for next week is unknown.

That, at least, should come as no surprise.
